Tutorial: How to Use the Blogger Meta Description Extractor (Atom Feed)

1. Overview

If you have a blog or website hosted on Blogger, you can export its content as an Atom feed, usually named feed.atom.
This feed contains the title, full URL, and meta description for each post — when the meta description has been filled in on Blogger.

These pieces of information are valuable but difficult to process directly.
The Blogger Meta Description Extractor was designed to help you automatically extract this data, display it clearly in a table, and export it to an Excel (.xls) file compatible with Excel, LibreOffice, or Google Sheets.

You can then easily back up, audit, or reuse your metadata — for example, when migrating from Blogger to WordPress or any other CMS.

2. Prepare Your Blogger Feed

Start by logging into your Blogger account.
Open your blog, then simply add /atom.xml to the end of its address. For example:
https://your-blog-name.blogspot.com/atom.xml

Right-click on the page and choose “Save as…” to download the file.
Save it to your computer under the name feed.atom.

Alternatively, you can find the same file using Google TakeOut, which now often includes the Atom feed export.

3. Open and Use the Tool

Open the file named Extract Blogger (Atom Feed).html included in your downloaded folder.
The tool will open directly in your browser — no installation required.

In the field labeled “Base URL”, enter your main blog address, for example:
https://your-blog-name.blogspot.com
Make sure not to add a slash / at the end.

Then click the “Choose file” button and select the feed.atom file you just downloaded.

The tool will automatically parse your feed and display in a table:

  • Each post title
  • Its full URL
  • Its meta description

Processing time is usually about 4–5 seconds, even for large blogs (around 1,300 posts).

4. Export Results to Excel

Once the table is displayed, click the button “Download Excel (.xls)”.
A file named flux_blogger_metas.xls will be generated and downloaded to your computer.

You can open it with Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or Google Sheets.
All columns are properly formatted and ready to be sorted, analyzed, or imported into another tool.

5. Use the Exported File

The exported file lets you back up all your metadata before closing or migrating your Blogger site.
You can also use it to:

  • Import your data into WordPress or another CMS
  • Share it with a professional handling your migration
  • Conduct an SEO audit by viewing titles and descriptions side by side

6. Tips for Best Results

  • The Atom feed must come from your entire blog, not from a specific label or tag.
  • Make sure that your meta descriptions are filled in for each post on Blogger.
  • If the tool doesn’t detect any content, try regenerating your feed using this URL format: https://your-blog-name.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

7. What to Do with the Extracted Meta Descriptions

If you are migrating your Blogger / Blogspot site to WordPress, you can paste these meta descriptions into the SEO field of each post using your SEO plugin — such as Rank Math or Yoast SEO.

For Yoast SEO, the Bulk Edit tool is particularly useful:
