Create Monograms for Free

The Monogram is best known in the world of calligraphy, but also in the world of handmade products, and even more so in the world of weddings, since many wedding decorations, such as invitations, often feature the initials of the happy partners in the form of a Monogram. The Monogram is also present in sewing, if only to mark the ownership of napkins, with initials embroidered in the corner… More and more, the Monogram is inviting itself onto the web, thanks to free or not, downloadable or online tools.

Here are just a few examples of free sites where you can have fun creating monograms : Free Monograms

Markandgraham.com

This site is one of the most popular and widely used, because it’s free and quite extensive. It lets you have fun testing Monograms, especially with 2 letters. With 3 Initials, most of the frames unfortunately don’t match, skipping a letter in the process :

The site lets you discover the world of Monograms, free of charge. Test colors, fonts and layouts.

Invys.com

Update May 9, 2024 : The Invys website is unfortunately no longer online. The link added in November 2015 when this article was published has therefore been removed.

In the same style, Invys allows you to go even further in personalizing your Monogram : Colors, letter positions and other elements, you can quickly get some nice and rather cute things. Although, of course, it’s no match for a competitive editor like PhotoShop.

Seulement 16 trames de départ disponibles à ce jour. Mais pour du gratuit qu’on peut personnaliser assez vite et facilement, on ne va pas se plaindre. Voici un exemple obtenu en quelques secondes puis envoyé par mail par le site :

Font-meme

On FontMeme, you can have fun while creating some funky and old school monograms. Some fonts as apex or cheschire allow to discover what can give 2 or 3 letters together :

There’s no doubt that many of us now prefer to use tools like Canva. The results are much cleaner. And they can be modified on the fly.

DesignMantic

This other source is not perfect. But Designmantic shows more choices than Invys. Here are some tests made with this monogram free web tool :

Amongs tools available in editor, you can chose between several colors and fonts :

It goes without saying that these web tools will never replace advanced and quite expensive tools to create elements that will be 100% unique and personalized. Of course, these free web tools will never be worth the quality and authenticity of the handmade work that many artists will create.

Above all, these sites are resources for discovering these visual and calligraphic elements, which in the end are not as widespread or well-known as one might at first think.

YWB will be back very soon with new visual and web resources recently discovered on the web. Something to linger over, share and have fun with. Which never hurts these days.

Monograms in 2024 have really lost their speed. Unless they’re particularly light and highly legible, especially when using a monogram for a Logo, many prefer them to a full word.
