Blogger how to activate the WebP image format?

The Blogger platform is often criticized for not evolving for years. However, when we look through the settings, we can discover that Blogger (formerly called Blogspot) offers native features that we would very much like to see on other platforms or CMS. Especially when certain functions can affect performance in terms of display time of pages and media files of a blog or website.

In this case, a somewhat hidden functionality is nevertheless very interesting. This feature is the ability to enable the distribution of images using the WebP format. Format much lighter a priori than unoptimized JPG or even PNG.

In short, today let’s find out how to find where to activate this very useful function on Blogger

How to enable image diffusion of articles on Blogger using WebP

On Blogger, many options must be configured in the settings. Also, go to the dashboard of your Blogger interface, then go to Settings:

Blogger settings

Once you are in the space dedicated to the settings, go down to the part called “Articles”. If you’re too lazy to scroll down or search, simply do a search via keyboard shortcut with Ctrl+F, then type “webp“. This will take you to the following in capture:

You will have understood, by default, the functionality is disabled. Also to activate it and start the distribution of the images of the articles using the webP format, you will have to click to start this distribution.

That’s all!

Note that on Blogger, you will not have to record your action of activating or deactivating the webp usage functionality in the articles. This is taken into account live in one or two seconds.

Are Blogger images of articles directly in webP format?

No, after enabling this option, you will have to wait to see the webP deployed. After activating this item, the images on my test blog were always in JPG or PNG format. A conversion operation will have to be carried out, which may explain the non-immediacy of the distribution of images from your Blogger blog in the articles, with webP.

Does this affect all images on the Blogger blog?

A priori no, as indicated by the title of the functionality which is also found in the Articles section of the settings. This only concerns the images of the articles on your BLOGGER blog.
