Google News is a very old Google product. Sometimes neglected by many small and medium-sized web media. They are unaware that Google News can be a real way of generating inbound traffic when a website complies with the rules imposed by Publisher Center. But when a website has been approved for its content to be published on Google News, it can be interesting to see how much traffic it receives via Google News. Just as it will be useful to know the number of subscribers.
So let’s find out today how to find out how many subscribers a website has registered and validated on Google News.
How many subscribers does a website have on Google News?
To find out how many subscribers you have on Google News, go to the Publisher Center: https://publishercenter.google.com/
Once you’ve logged in, you’ll see the Google News widget on the left:

And under the title of the Google News product, you’ll see in green the number of subscribers to your web media on Google News!
That’s all it takes to get the information! 🙂
Note that over time, the number of subscribers may change, so you’ll see whether the number of Google News subscribers is increasing or decreasing.
Note that if you only have one subscriber, it is likely to be you. This is because when you configure a publication before Google News examines a website, you are asked to “follow” this media in order to find out how it is displayed. You are therefore probably subscribed to your own Google News web feed.
Why is the number of subscribers important on Google News?
You may have very few subscribers but still get a fair amount of traffic from Google News. You can find out how to see the traffic that comes from Google News here (with Google Search Console). However, the number of subscribers represents a view of what may be more easily accessible to people browsing Google News.
A subscriber to a web medium present on Google News will have live access to the latest articles from this medium via the ‘Followed’ tab. 🙂
Also, with direct access to the web media that they have decided to follow, users will find it easier to discover recently published articles.
So when and if your media is validated on Google News following a review request, don’t hesitate to share with your audience the fact that your website is there. So that people who follow you and who are on Google News can find you there.
In the opposite case, any other subscriptions would come spontaneously from people who are already Google News users, who would discover your web media directly via Google’s news product.
